Police in Kono have arrested the All Peoples Congress (APC) youth chairman in Gbense chiefdom and forty others following the ugly incident that occurred in Kono last month over a lease of No 11 sand tailing between youths of the district and security forces.
Adamu Effe and others have been charged to court and were expected to make their first appearance in court any time soon.
However, police source stated that the youths were still in possession of one AK47 gun. Local authorities said the news that the youth were in possession of a gun was not a surprise to them as most of them were former fighters and that Kono was hosting the highest number of ex-combatants in the country.
“As such the police must ensure that the AK47 gun is retrieved from the youths otherwise our lives are at stake,” he feared.
It should be noted that the youths of the two chiefdoms alleged that the ruling government promised them the land during the campaign period.
The incident led into an exchange of gun fire between a joint security force and the youths and in the ensuing scuffle a 17-round pistol was disarmed from a police sergeant Brima Jah.
