Brothers clinch cycling titles

Alie Kamara and Edward Kanu, born of the same mother, Sunday emerged champions of the first Western Area Junior Cycling Championship.

The race which started from PZ through Siaka Stevens Street, Aberdeen, Lumley and ended at the National Stadium by Syke Street gate, saw Kamara ending in a time of 39:02:79 sec followed by his brother Kanu at 39:11:43 seconds.

Alhaji Conteh came third at a time of 40:14:60; followed by Marcus M'bayo (40:17:89 sec); Mohamed Kabba (40:24:61 sec). Sorie Bangura and Abu B Kamara ended in sixth and seventh positions at 40:47:48 sec and 41:08:22 sec respectively.

The two brothers became surprise winners as they came from nowhere to overcome the others. Race observers claim both of them were not among the top five when the race was about to end.

Alie who won a sport bicycle told Concord Sports he was happy to be crowned as champion and to win the bicycle. "I now have a bicycle which I would use for my training sessions for future competitions," he said.

A total of 46 cyclists started the race but 42 completed it.
