President of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) Tuesday called on the Deputy Minister of Education Youth and Sports to help rehabilitate the cricket ovals at Kingtom.
Proud Bunce Coker whose boys has just returned home with another cricket laurel appealed to the minister, Dr. Algasimu Jah to help restore hope to the only cricket ovals the country has.
He said, “The entire oval needs fencing and other facilities. The oval is the only pitch in the world which has goal post on it.”
According to Coker, if the oval is fenced, and the pitch has grass and the dressing rooms renovated, the current ban on the ovals will be lifted.
He thanked the ministry for their Le 49.9 million funds to which he said is the highest amount the association has ever received from government to participate in international competition.
For their outstanding performance in Nigeria , Coker revealed that the Africa Cricket Council (ACC) donated four sets of kit bags.
He appealed to the minister to take the game back to the schools as this is one of the motive of ACC.
“We will keep the country's flag flying higher,” Coker promised.
Commenting on the cricket oval, Dr. Jah said, his government will properly look into it and see how best they can help.
“I am not assuring you that we are going to work on it now, but as a government we are going to look into this and see how best we can possibly help,” he said.
