Out gone general manager of the Sierra Leone Airport Authority (SLAA) Donald Bull was yesterday crowned Paramount Chief Bai Shebora Bullom II, an honorary title of Kaffu Bullom, Port Loko district.
In a jam-packed Mahera court barray, Kandeh Yillah secretary general of labour congress welcomed the people for gathering at such a short notice.
“It was here on June 30 that we bestowed honour on Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of Britain. Today, we will be honouring our own brother for his contribution to our community and the nation at large,” Yillah said.
He noted that Donald Bull was a household name as he has served SLAA for 37 years.
“Donald Bull grew up in the aviation industry, therefore the people of Kaffu Bullom now deemed it fit to honour him for his work as the first honourary gentleman of the chiefdom. It is the consideration of the Regent Chief, chiefdom elders and the entire chiefdom to bestow chieftaincy title on Donald Bull. Under Bull SLAA has contributed immensely to the development of our chiefdom,” Yillah said, adding that it was under him that a chiefdom relations committee, to liaise with SLAA for common understanding, was created.
Speaking at the crowning ceremony, J.S. Kaloko, chairman of Kaffu Bullom development union (KABUDU) reiterated that Donald Bull was a good man who has given tremendous support to KABUDU.
Regent Chief Alhaji Hassan Bangura intimated the crowd that honour should be bestowed on those God has bestowed honour on.
“It is never my initiative to honour Donald Bull. It was the late Paramount Chief Komkanda II who suggested the crowning of Donald Bull before his death. He is the man behind all the development in this chiefdom by SLAA. He gave scholarships and employments to our children,” Bangura recalled.
He explained that SLAA has sponsored a lot of projects in the chiefdom in the areas of agriculture, education and other social activities like assistance to the mosques and churches in the chiefdom.
Performing the rite Pa Alimamy Kargbo Kapeng said Donald Bull has always identified himself with the chiefdom people. “The name for our honourary Paramount Chief is Bai Shebora Bullom II. He is named after the first Paramount Chief of Kaffu Bullom,” Kapeng said amidst thunderous applause.
“He is no more Donald Bull the ordinary man but Bai Shebora Bullom, Paramount Chief of Kaffu Bullom.”
The newly crowned chief thanked the community and his former co-workers for helping him reach such a peak of honour.
“Strangers too have the chance to become chiefs as long as they behave well in society. I also want the chiefdom community to continue supporting the SLAA, one of the best institutions in the country,” he said adding that he would continue assisting community people to come together and develop the chiefdom.
