A 9-year-old boy of Koilahu Njiegeh Yawai chiefdom, Kailahun district last Thursday had his right hand amputated by a grenade explosion.
A resident of the village Francis Borbor said Sahr Mohamed and his friends were gathering fallen mangoes when Mohamed found the object. He said it was during the process of playing with the unknown object that the grenade exploded cutting his right hand completely.
Borbor stated that authorities in the chiefdom have announced to the people to report to the police whenever they find any strange object within their environment.
“This is not the first time such harmful objects have been discovered within our environment. During farming season, farmers find bullets and Rocket Propel Grenades,” he said.
Meanwhile Mohamed is currently undergoing medical treatment at the Kailahun Government hospital.
