By Ibrahim Tarawallie

Institute of Charted Accountant Sierra Leone has launched its accountancy week to mark the 20 th anniversary celebration of the institute.

Speaking to a cross section of journalists at the institute's head office on Wellington Street , the president Marjorie Hedd said the theme for the anniversary was ‘the use of information technology to promote transparency and accountability.'

She said the theme would form the central focus of several topics that would be dealt with during a two-day accountants' conference to be held at Kimbima Hotel on May 7 and 8 respectively.

“Several activities have been put in place to mark the anniversary of the institute. Some of the activities include thanksgiving service at Sacred Heart Cathedral, long service award ceremony and inauguration of the institute's accounting technician society,” she said.

She said the institute has a membership of over 100 chartered accountants with several affiliates and hundreds of accounting technicians adding that they carry out their teaching responsibility through local tuition providers most of which she said are manned by qualified accountants.

She said the institute as a self-regulating body controls its members in public practice particularly through the constant prescription of its accounting and audit standards and ethics adding.

“The institute is undertaking a review of its accounting and audit standards which will soon be established and maintained for members.”
