Communities sensitized on property register, rate payment

By Ben Samuel Turay

Acting chairman of the Western Area Rural District Council last week commenced a sensitization on registration of property and rate payment at the Regent and Goderich community in Freetown.

Councilor Alhassan Cole said rate is a security for houses and evidence of ownership of property which rings development to the community. He advised that tenants would not be received rate from.

“It is a responsibility of house owners, so that no body will claim that property in the future, people have lost their properties on that,” He said.

Councilor Godwin Thomas said the council wants to employ people that will go to the communities and get proper information.

“We will soon employ supervisors to monitor the field workers, so that we will get the right information,” he said.

He added that they would also be checking whether every house have toilet facility. He assured the people that whatever income comes for the community will be made known.

An elder at Goderich Pa Sheku Turay said there are lands that don't have access roads, and without streets name which has made it very difficult to identify them.

He said people should ensure that the council's programs succeed to avoid problems in the future.
