After taking over as President of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU), Dr. Amos Adamu has assured of more competitions as a first step in his quest to revamp the union.
The Director General of National Sports Commission of Nigeria, who finally took over the reigns of WAFU from the outgoing president Jacques Anouma, appealed to members to forge ahead in unity.
Dr Adamu said, I must commend Mr Anouma for his gentlemanly approach to the Cairo resolution and I am appealing to members to forge ahead in unity, adding that to revamp the union, I am assuring that there is going to be more competitions as a first step in my quest.
The outgoing President Anouma pledged his unflinching support to Adamu and his Executive. However, Anouma's executive became unpopular following an administrative impasse that rocked the union.
Adamu's take over was emanated from a meeting by the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on June 5, 2007 in Cairo, Egypt.
It could be recalled that last year Adamu visited Sierra Leone and promised if he got the supports from the Sierra Leone Football Association he in turn will support the association.
The current Executive Committee member of CAF and FIFA will head WAFU till 2012
