By Ibrahim Jaffa Condeh

The Sierra Leone Armed Forces and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on May 2 launched the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) manual on the law of Armed Conflict, at the ministry of defence head quarter in Freetown.

Lieutenant Moray Koroma, in his overview of the manual, said IHL protects those not or no longer taking part in fighting and limits the means and methods of warfare.

He added that ICRC provides training for four officers, conducted in Italy , and was among the one hundred and third courses.

The IMATT Commander Colonel Chri Vemon said the laws of armed conflict should be respected adding that he hugely commend the work done in the manual.

Head of delegation ICRC Christoph Hartmann said the respect of these human rights is one target of the 1949 Geneva Convention which aims at respecting human rights at all times.

Minister of defence Palo Conteh said the launch marks a new era in the RSLAF to start inculcating the IHL, for professional standard.
