Equatorial Guinea Spanish based defender Lauren Doe said they were lucky to have defeated Leone Stars 2-0 at home in Malabo on Sunday.
Doe confessed to Concord Sports that they were outplayed by Leone Stars in the first half and were even dominated after scoring two goals.
Sierra Leone has a good squad, and we found it very difficult at first to play constructive football because they were in control of the match. They were, however, unlucky to get a goal which was good for us.
In football there must be a winner and a looser, but for me personally Leone Stars do not deserve to lose. However, I am happy we defeated them, Doe said and wished the team good luck ahead of the Nigeria encounter.
The Spanish based defender further applauded his team-mates for an outstanding performance, adding that their constructive performance aided them to stop the Sierra Leonean attack from scoring.
He said, In football it is important to win all your home matches and we are determined to take similar approach in our away matches.
Also speaking to Concord Sports was the Equatorial Guinea coach Jordan De Freitas who applauded Leone Stars performance, adding that their victory was indicative of their improvement.
We are now focusing on the South Africa encounter and I believe my team will give me results. We are going to press for glory, the Brazilian coach said.
