Woman raped under gun point

By Fuad Kamara in Kono

Five men were Thursday alleged to have pointed guns at a young woman and forced her to shut up while they raped her at a nearby bush in Yengema village, Kono district.

The woman (name withheld) told Concord Times that she was deceived by unknown men at Mortema into believing that her husband was going out with another woman at Yengema.

The men opted to help the furious nagging wife to locate her husband and said they could take her there. One of them cane at around 8 o'clock in the evening to take her to where the husband was alleged to be hiding.

They then agreed to hire a motorbike but on their way the young man, who pretended to be helping, suggested that they alight from the bike and use a footpath through the Yengema airfield.

By the time they got to the end of the field the man put her under gun point and called on his colleagues to come out from the bush. She was stripped naked and instructed to lie down on the floor where she was sexually assaulted one after the other by four other men who came from inside the bush.

After being raped, Le 5,000 and a cell phone were stolen from her. The unknown man who picked her up from Motema then called her husband and told him that the woman has been raped and lying in the bush hopelessly.

Later she managed to make her way home before she was taken to the hospital where she was placed under intensive medical care.

A resident of Yengema Fatmata Kamara said unfamiliar faces of young men in the chiefdom are in the habit of raping women who refuse to be their girl friends.

Police are currently looking for the five suspects.
